Balance

Since being a kid, Simon Gorm Eskildsen has been drawing and playing music, and has never been able to choose which of the two to focus on. Instead he has tried to find a balance between both.

Music

Simon Gorm Eskildsen is an award winning Jazz and world pianist currently residing in Copenhagen. Known for his attentive listening and delicate touch, Simons versatility on the piano is evident in the many different bands and projects he is involved with.

Simon debuted his own trio in 2017 with the critically acclaimed Introducing the Simon Eskildsen Trio. Collaborating with drummer Daniel Sommer and bassplayer Thomas Sejthen - the trio works as the vehicle for Simons compositions, and a very open musical space for exploration in the jazz idiom.

"Throughout the album, there is a dynamic sense of swinging lyricism and playfulness. Simple melodic figures are balanced by sophisticated chord progressions and given room to breathe. Hopefully, the introduction of this particular trio is the beginning of a long musical relationship and many more records to come."

- Jakob Bækgaard (allaboutjazz.com)

Besides the trio, Simon is also playing with Daniel Sommer as OrgelDuo - an organ/drum groove combo with a complete visual side as well. Their debut album/comicbook Hr & Fru OrgelDuo Travels the World was released in 2019.

Simon is also part of the Karmen Rõivassepp Quartet, modern jazz quintet Morten Haugshøj Group, Karsten Aaholms Deja Vu, and of course the 13-man afro-collective AddisAbabaBand among others.

Visual work

Drawing on the margins of music papers while studying piano at the conservatory gradually turned into getting commissions for record covers from classmates and in turn, the wider music-community.

As a self taught illustrator and animator, Simon's work has evolved in close relation to the music scene. With clients ranging from bands, festivals, venues and the danish musicians union.

Most of the work is done primarily digital.

Software: Clip Studio Paint (illustration, animating), Procreate (sketching, illustration), Blender3d (3d).
